Oscars Support

2017-2023

Hollywood’s biggest night

Every Oscar season, from the nominations announcement to post-show blog posts, our team helped support the digital Oscars experience. What began as a standalone site was eventually migrated onto ABC.com and every year there were unique challenges and exciting collaboration that’s to be expected with any live award show.

Nominations

In 2017, Oscars.com was a standalone website, and beginning with Nominations we were tasked with updating category images of all the nominees, including a sponsored marketing image for the site.

As a part of nominations, we were tasked with creating an accessible printable ballot for viewers to fill out at home. This meant it had to be designed to be screen reader compatible - for any viewers that were viewing impaired or needed extra assistance. Every nominations morning, we updated the ballot in real time as nominees were announced.

Oscars Sunday

On Oscar Sunday, we assisted our content partners with finding red carpet images as celebrities arrived. During the show we’d also assist with finding images of the winners of main categories as these were often featured the following day. This including retouching or cropping photos to best prepare them for publishing.

Now that the Oscars web experience lives on ABC.com, I helped with art direction, creating templates for consistency, and working closely with our partners at the Acedemy for Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Other Experiences

In tandem with our various Oscars marketing efforts, the Oscars Pick ‘Em game was a main product we supported. It allows guests to make their Oscar picks ahead of time and play along with friends for the most accurate Oscars ballot. Winners are rewarded with prizes and the game helps increase overall user engagement with the Oscars.
